Rook was born in the nation of Londe within the Hundred Kingdoms. Orphaned after one of the invasions common to the region, he grew up stealing what was needed to survive. This upbringing led to banditry and mercenary work at a young age; honing his skills and earning him a reputation for being able to steal and break into most anything.

While camped within the nearly forgotten town of Hetunn, Rook learned of a building far older than the rest of the structures, one that had been locked for ages and no known person had ever broken into. The domed building wasn’t particularly impressive, but a challenge was a challenge so he set about finding a way in.

After hours of climbing, searching, picking, and knocking, he found and disarmed a dangerously trapped entrance on the mirrored dome itself. Inside was an observatory, full of astrolabes and armillary spheres that curiously were not covered in the dust of ages. He also wasn’t alone. As if he were expected, a shadowy figure struck at him with twin blades that gleamed with the light of stars. Before he knew what happened, one of the blades was in his hand, plucked at the last minute from the off-hand of his attacker. The dim room was bathed in illumination, which he realized was coming from himself.

Confused at the turn of events, Rook quickly fled out the way he came in, mentally wishing the brightness he carried with him would dim. To his astonishment, it did, and with his stolen weapon in hand, he disappeared into the Scavenger Lands unsure of how he managed to cheat fate in such a glorious way.
