Exalted: Secrets of the Lost Age
Tanethaela the Divine
Midday's rolling fire/the calm fury of the sun/beautiful as death
So was written the haiku about Tanethaela, known as the Divine. Her circle's spiritual guide and consummate warrior, Tanethaela treasured the haiku, written by a peasant farmer, and had the stanza tattooed on her back so she would always carry it with her. She wrote the stanza in fire and blood on the hills over Currath when she laid low the armies of Darkbrood that gathered there. She whispered the haiku in the ear of the dying warlord Utocess Noro, at the climax of their three-day duel when he lay impaled on her bladed staff. It is said, the haiku comprised her last words when she was murdered during the Usurpation, and it is further said that the words somehow point to her tomb, wherever it may lie.
